Amid the repercussions of the “adultization” debate, on August 27, 2025, the 7th Labor Court of São Paulo issued a preliminary injunction in a Public Civil Action. It orders Facebook and Instagram not to admit or tolerate the exploitation of child artistic labor on their platforms without prior court authorization, under penalty of a R$50,000 fine per child or teenager in an irregular situation.

The judge’s decision granted a request from the MPT (Public Labor Prosecutor’s Office), which pointed out that the platforms profit from children and teenagers appearing in commercial content without observing the guarantees and rights set out in the ECA (Brazil’s Child and Adolescent Statute).

The decision is based on the possible harm to children and teenagers who are exposed on social media for profit, such as pressure to produce content, exposure to attacks from haters, impacts on their right to education and development, and the loss of activities typical of childhood.

The deadline for compliance is five business days from the date of notification.
